Located within the forests and heathlands of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the landscape has been designed as a seamless extension of the architecture and its natural setting.

The landscape around the house designed by Orga Architecten flows naturally into the architecture, with the existing contours of the site shaping a seamless connection between house and nature. A series of outdoor living areas is arranged around the house, creating peaceful places where the residents can enjoy the landscape and life outdoors in harmony with nature.

Contours of the landscape
The curved paths follow the natural shape of the site and connect the different elements of the garden. Most of the paving is made of semi-permeable materials, which adds to the natural character of the landscape. Changes in level are resolved with corten steel retaining walls that follow the contours of the terrain.

Connected to Nature
The planting design is composed largely of native and locally characteristic species, selected in response to the woodland and heathland context. Particular attention was given to species that belong naturally to this area and that contribute ecological value, especially for local fauna.

Rainwater is retained on site and allowed to infiltrate naturally into the soil. Through the strategic introduction of a shallow swale, runoff from roofs and paved surfaces is guided towards a natural swimming pond. In addition, a jacuzzi has been integrated into a built-in seating element. Together, these interventions create an outdoor environment in which spatial quality, comfort and nature are brought into balance.
