The municipality has expressed a desire to better connect the city center of Doetinchem with the Oude IJssel. Studio Nico Wissing was commissioned to create a master plan for the area surrounding the Oude IJssel. This gave rise to the idea of the Park of Dutch Dreams: a vibrant city park with colorful, blooming borders that offers a green experiential space.
Nico invited the world-renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf, known for his natural planting style, to apply his unique plant combinations in the park. Oudolf proposed involving other garden designers in the design process as well. As a result, a unique park of approximately 8,000 m² has been created on the banks of the Oude IJssel, where the planting plans of Piet Oudolf, Jacqueline van der Kloet, Bart Hoes, Tom de Witte, Climmy Schneider, and Nico Wissing can be admired.
The park is worth visiting all year round: in spring, countless bulbs bloom, followed by colorful flowers in summer. In autumn, silhouettes and swaying ornamental grasses create an atmospheric scene.
